OCTOBER NEWSLETTER 2006

There has been plenty of racing since the season started with Hamilton’s Mystery Muster, Pre Norths at New Plymouth, the Region Champs at Cambridge and the new Tri-Series as some of the meetings.

Welcome to all the new riders who have joined Hamilton this season.  It is great to see the new faces around the track.  Thank you to all the riders and their families for getting their licence forms and North Island Titles entries in on time.

Test Teams

Congratulations to Hamilton riders who made it into the Test Teams – Axel Jones in the Seniors and James McLennan in the Mighty 11s.  Well done to all other riders who entered for selection.  Remember it is that extra training and determination that will give you the edge at the top end of the competition.  Good luck to the Test Teams when they come up against the Aussies at Labour Weekend.  This year as a ‘one off’ a Girls Test Team has come across from Australia.  Best wishes and Good Luck also to all riders going to the North Island Titles.

Club Nights

Club nights are being well supported.  A roster will be out soon and the roster for the night’s racing will be written up on a board.  Please check this as we need all family’s to assist a few times during the season.  Duties include marshalling, call-up, start gate, barbeque and shop.

Club Championships

Club champs will be under way soon.  These are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month with points going to end of season awards.  Riders need to complete a minimum of 3 rounds plus a minimum of 7 other club nights to be eligible for Club Champs awards.  Dates for Club Champs rounds are as follows:

8th November, 13th December, 14th February, 14th March and 11th April

All sprockets will race Club Champs nights without clips even though they may have gone up to the next age group for regular club nights.

Region Inter Club Competition

This competition is between the clubs in our Region.  Each rider earns points from the nights racing and at the end of the competition points are added to determine the winning club.  Girls and Boys race together on these nights.  Dates of Inter Club are:

Hamilton 1st November, Te Kuiti 4th December, Cambridge 8th February and Te Awamutu 12th March.  Check-in no later than 6.15pm on these nights with racing commencing at 6.30pm.

Hamilton Club Fees and BMXNZ Licence Fees

These are due now along with licence fees.  BMXNZ are changing the licensing year. Previously our licences were valid from 1 August until 31 July but BMXNZ are changing this to the calendar year i.e. 1 January until 31 December.  Currently there are 2 licensing options available to assist with the changeover: 1 August 2006 until 31 December 2006 OR 1 August 2006 until 31 December 2007.  If you require the license forms or have any questions relating to licenses see either Janet Parker or Annette Slegh.

Sprockets  (up to 7 years)

A sprocket licence entitles you to race anywhere in New Zealand at any meeting.  Parents – once your child has had their 8th birthday you are required to complete an upgrade form for BMXNZ.  It is important that this is done.  There will be no further cost to you until the licence that you have purchased expires.

Novices               (8-14 years)

A novice licence enables you to race at our club events and in locally organized interclub competitions in novice class races only. Riders on a novice licence can upgrade to a full licence at any time.

Open/Full

A full licence entitles you to race anywhere in New Zealand and includes 20” and cruiser classes – only one licence required for both

Club Nights

Cost:                   $2 per rider (Hamilton Club member)  ]           Capped at $5.00 per

$2 per rider (Waikato Region)               ]           family

                            $3 per rider (Other Clubs)

For those of you who are new, your first 3 club nights are free of charge.  After three free club nights you will be expected to join the club and get a licence.  You will also need a bike, helmet and racing gear.  Riders race 4 motos and prizes/and/or ribbons are awarded at the end of racing.

Helmets, gloves and bike pads are compulsory.  Helmets can be hired from the club and we have gloves and bike pads that you may borrow until you get your own.  These must be returned at the end of each night.  The club also has racing bikes that may be hired on a club night.  These bikes are available as an opportunity to try out a BMX racing bike for new families and those intending to purchase one.  They may also be hired in the event of a breakdown of a riders bike.  Please remember the reason that the club has these bikes and that they are not intended for regular use by the same rider.

SAFETY GEAR:

Remember: long pants, long sleeve shirt, shoes and socks, gloves and a full-faced helmet or open face with mouth guard. Please ensure that all bikes have lights, stands, pegs etc removed.  Please do not ride on the track without a helmet at any time.  Unfortunately one of our new riders did one night before racing, fell and required an ambulance.

REMINDERS!

·                                   Sprocket riders must ride with their official sprocket number plates

·                                   All riders under 14 years of age must be supervised by a parent

·                                   All riders must have a BMX NZ licence

Cancellations:

If club nights are cancelled due to wet weather a decision will be made after 4 pm on Wednesday night.  This decision will be posted on the club internet site: www.hamiltonbmx.homestead.com

Otherwise you can contact Elaine Lucas after 4.15 pm (847 5190)

WORKING BEE

A two day working bee will be held at the track on Thursday 26th October and Friday 27th October.  Any help greatly appreciated.

We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Trust Waikato for the donation of $5,500 towards the 2007 North Islands

New parents to BMX sometimes need advice on what size of bike their riders should be on.  The following table may help you to understand the various rider heights relative to bike size.

2006/2007 North Island BMX Racing Calendar

Attached is the racing calendar through to the end of January.  For new members please keep an eye on the closing dates of these meetings.  Flyers will either be emailed to you or for members not on email they will either be on the notice board or ask at the club rooms.

Also for new members, this years Nationals will be held at the North Harbour track at Easter 2007.  To compete at the Nationals there are a few requirements that need to be met:

1.       Riders must have completed at least 3 NQM meetings (nominated qualifying        meetings)

2.       Riders must hold either a sprocket licence or a full licence, novice riders cannot compete at the Nationals.

3.       3 NQM’s must have been completed while licensed as a sprocket rider or with a full licence to qualify for the Nationals.  If you choose to upgrade from a novice licence to a full licence, you will need to complete the 3 required NQM’s after you have upgraded, irrespective of how many NQM’s you may have competed at with a novice licence.

If you have any questions regarding competing at the Nationals, please come and see one of the committee members.
